A couple of days back I watched a movie which changed my whole idea about how innovations are born . I use to think we need to be  intelligent to become a scientist , however this movie which is based on ISRO’s one of the greatest achievements proved that a scientist should not only be an intelligent person but also a sensible person.

It proves that the  basic kitchen tips which our mothers use daily are capable of running rockets in the sky ,that to with very less fuel consumption.A typical middle class person will also think of extracting more and more with very less cost spent , we try to adjust big things in our small houses and when we observe carefully we can see that a middle class person will try to reduce his fuel consumption by turning of his/her motor bike in sloppy regions  or at a place where acceleration is not needed . All these things that we do by using our common sense helped in creating India’s one of historic innovations.

Yes, I am talking about the movie MANGALYAAN , this movie depicts the achievements of Indian scientists who used there common sense in a most remarkable manner and made its presence felt in Mars’ atmospheric zone. The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan (“Mars-craft”, from Sanskrit: मंगल mangala, “Mars” and यान yāna, “craft, vehicle”), is a space probe orbiting Mars since 24 September 2014. It was launched on 5 November 2013 by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is India’s first interplanetary mission and it made it the fourth space agency to reach Mars, after Roscosmos, NASA, and the European Space Agency. It made India the first Asian nation to reach Martian orbit and the first nation in the world to do so on its maiden attempt .

This movie helped me in knowing that a scientist is not the one who is able to answer different series of technical questions but the one who observes her surroundings keenly and uses her common sense creatively.

This movie once again reminds us that the origin of great innovations and discoveries are all born from the creative usage of common sense by world’s best observers.
